Sustainable Food System & Livelihood

Enhancing community resilience through stable agricultural practices, employment creation, and good governance.

Transforming Lives, Strengthening Communities

For over two decades, PADet has been creating lasting change by empowering communities to overcome poverty, strengthen resilience, and build sustainable futures. Through integrated development approaches, we work alongside communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners to address the root causes of vulnerability while promoting inclusive economic growth, peace, and social well-being. Every program is designed not only to respond to immediate needs but also to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities needed to thrive independently.

Our livelihood and food security interventions have transformed the lives of thousands of women, youth, and farming households by expanding access to vocational skills, entrepreneurship training, financial services, and market opportunities. Through climate-smart agriculture, small enterprise development, agricultural value chains, and employment promotion, vulnerable communities have been able to increase productivity, diversify their sources of income, strengthen household resilience, and transition from dependency to sustainable self-reliance. These efforts have also empowered women and young people to become leaders in economic development within their communities.

Recognizing the growing challenges posed by climate change and recurring humanitarian crises, PADet has invested in building resilient communities capable of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters. Our programs promote integrated watershed management, sustainable natural resource conservation, disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and emergency response interventions. By strengthening local systems, introducing innovative agricultural practices, and supporting emergency recovery efforts, we help communities protect their livelihoods while reducing the long-term impacts of environmental and economic shocks.

PADet also believes that sustainable development depends on peaceful, inclusive, and accountable societies. Through peacebuilding initiatives, social accountability programs, and good governance interventions, we strengthen collaboration between citizens and public institutions, promote constructive dialogue, and support community-led conflict prevention and resolution. Our work empowers women, youth, and marginalized groups to actively participate in decision-making processes while fostering trust, social cohesion, and improved public service delivery.

The impact of these integrated interventions is reflected in measurable improvements across communities. PADet-supported producers have generated more than ETB 120 million in annual agricultural sales, while participating households have earned over ETB 64 million in combined annual agricultural and non-agricultural income. Our programs have created thousands of full-time employment opportunities, expanded access to clean water and sanitation for more than 35,000 people, and directly reached over 66,000 beneficiaries through sustainable agriculture, livelihoods, empowerment, and WASH initiatives. Behind every number is a story of resilience, opportunity, and transformed lives—families with greater food security, young people building successful businesses, women leading community enterprises, and communities better prepared for the future.

At PADet, impact is measured not only by statistics but by the lasting transformation experienced by the people we serve. We remain committed to delivering innovative, community-centered solutions that strengthen resilience, promote inclusion, and create opportunities for generations to come.
